This is the quote I used for my quote project earlier this month for Creative Writing class. This quote is something that is extremely important to me, and something that I try to live by in my day-to-day life. I feel like this quote defines me in many ways; therefore, I also believe that it is a great quote to represent the general theme and feel for my blog. When I look at this quote I can dissect it into 3 parts; yesterday, tomorrow, and today. All 3 of these timings can mean a lot to an individual; however, one time stands out to me the most. This time is today.
Yesterday to me represents the past. this could include all your bad times and regrets, but also the good times and all your precious memories. Even the ones you hold the closest to your heart. Maybe these are memories that have been engraved in your brain since childhood. Maybe these are some of the memories you wish you could forget forever but are unable to do so. This quote is not telling you to forget about the past, but to let it go and to not allow your self to stay in the past forever. I strongly believe living in the past can be detrimental to both your present and future self. You should allow your past to help you grow as a person and teach you amazing and valuable lesson. However, you should never allow it to take over you and trap you, never letting you fully immerse yourself in the present.
Tomorrow represents the future. The future to you could be your goals, dreams, and success. The future to you could be how you see yourself as a 25-year-old, possibly living as you had planned ever since you were just a teenager. To me the future is something unknown and unpredictable. It is something that presents me with new opportunities and joys. No matter how much you plan and prepare you will never be able to know what the future truly holds. When I look at this quote I am able to relate to it because I also believe that tomorrow is never promised. You are not and can not be 100% sure about tomorrow. The future should not be something you fear; even though, as humans we are generally scared of the unknown. The future is something we spend a lot of time worrying about. It’s something that takes us away from the present and into a zone where we worry about something we can’t control. it doeskin make any sense. It should be looked at as a good thing, you should look at the future as a chance to learn and grow, it should be an opportunity not as misfortune.
Today represents the present. Today is after yesterday, but before tomorrow. We sometimes forget about the present (today) when we are stuck in the past (yesterday) or worried about the future (tomorrow). Although, the past and future are important in their own ways, I believe the present is the most important. We should all try our best to live in the present. We should take a moment and step back to fully absorb everything that is going on. We all need to look around us and understand how lucky we are. How lucky we are to be going to such a great school surrounded by amazing friends and teachers. I even believe that we should try to leave our comfort zone and try new things and take risks in the present without worrying about the present or the future. We need to stop fighting the present and ignoring the opportunities it presents us with because of our concern and obsession with the past and future.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be 70 years old looking back at my life and feeling regret and dissatisfaction realizing I spent all my years worrying about the past and future. I want to be 70 years old and feel content and happy with my life, I want to be proud that I enjoyed the present. I want to be able to feel the joy I did when I lived in the moment. In the moments when I was carefree and content living my best life.
